We recommend ordering ½ size down from your typical US shoe size. Because sizing down also reduces the width slightly, we'd recommend sizing up in width to help maintain a comfortable fit through the front of the shoe.

Crafted in calf leather, the Marlowe offers a more structured fit than many of our other loafers. Designed to be worn with a thin sock, we'd expect it to feel comfortably snug on your first try-on. The leather will gradually soften with wear, though the structured silhouette will remain.

We've found the Marlowe has a closer fit across the instep. If you have a higher instep or know you prefer a more accommodating fit, we'd recommend taking a look at The James Loafer or The Studio Loafer, which might be a better match.

  • Medium: A standard width throughout (comparable to a B width)

Since calf leather is porous and absorbs water easily, avoid getting them wet. Getting the shoes soaking wet can irrevocably stain the leather, but if they just get a bit wet, stuffing the toe area with clean, un-dyed paper or cloth and letting them dry naturally, without heat, can help them to recover.

Most quality shoe repair shops will offer products to polish, protect, and refresh the leather's surface. A neutral cream polish—one without color—will also help protect the surface from scuffs and scrapes and keep the leather hydrated. If something's spilled on the leather, try using a soft cloth with a small amount of cleanser or cream on it. Rub the surface in a circular motion, then allow the shoe to dry before buffing the entire thing lightly with a dry, clean cloth.

A classic, reimagined for the MODERN dresser

Black loafer shoe on a beige background
Pair of maroon loafers on a beige background

Some accessories are forever in vogue, and we count a great loafer amongst that set. When rethinking the staple, we took the elements we loved, like a luxe keeper detail and detailed stitching, and then added our own touch (including, as always, careful attention to comfort).

Marlowe Loafer - Burgundy

"These Marlowe loafers is a beautiful shoe. The color is luscious, almost a deep purple. The leather USA bit stiff but I can tell it will soften with wear. Even though I sized down my feet slide forward in the both shoes leaving a little under a half inch at the heal. I used tongue pads to correct the position of my foot and heel pads in one shoe to prevent slipping. The soles are stiff but as they become more flexible with wear the heal slipping has improved. I continue the break-in process for a couple of hours a day. I look forward to my first outing in these shoes."

A Beautiful Loafer

"This loafer is everything I’ve been looking for. The quality is excellent. I have a narrow foot (typically a AA) and found the width to be just a bit wide, especially in the heel even with wearing socks. I placed a padded insert and heel pad and now the loafer fits perfectly and doesn’t slip. I think I could wear these loafers all day. They are very comfortable and have great support."

Excellent loafers

"Shoes are very comfortable from day one and the construction and materials are amazing. Grace was also a huge help for me asking questions over email to find the right model. I will purchase another pair in the future"

Beautiful Shoe

"I purchased these after I couldn’t get my size at Nordstrom. I also got $40 off on the Margaux website. The loafers are exceptional - beautifully made and quite comfortable. I got the brown color and sized up a half size as recommended."

My first Margaux pair is

"My first Margaux pair is The Marlowe loafer (mahogany). It looks so stylish and craftsmanship is excellent…very good fit (wide width)but you have to give it a couple of days “break-in”period to let the leather kind of mold to your feet. I’m thinking of purchasing another Margaux, soon! Thank you Margaux ❤️"

Marlowe loafer in narrow

"Closest thing I’ve found yet to my all-time favorite Ferragamo loafers since they stopped making my size fifteen or more years ago. It’s a bit wide for a narrow, but I can see they’ll last a long, long time."

Love!

"Beautiful and comfy right out of the box. goes with everything I wear to work. Love so much."

Fabulous Loafer

"I’ve been searching for the perfect loafer for about 6 months. I can’t tell you how many I tried on and most dug into ankles, were poor quality or ugly. I didn’t really want to pay this much, but I had exhausted all other options, so I bit the bullet and ordered them. They are sheer perfections. The style, the quality, the leather, the cut are exactly what I wanted in a loafer."

My favorite shoe

"It took a some effort to break in these shoes, but now that I have, I feel that they are worth their weight in gold. I wear them almost every day because they are the most comfortable shoes that I own and they look great with almost everything. I'm usually a size 39 (US 8. 5), but I found that that was just a little too bit (my heel was slipping when I walked). The 38 was perfect for me once broken in!"

Great stylish, comfortable loafers

"Fit: The first time I wore this shoe I wore it all day and walked at least 5500 steps to and from work. There was no pain, no blisters, and no discomfort! This loafer is my third Margaux loafer. I love all three! The other two I have are no longer produced; they have leather soles and fit like a glove. Color: I usually buy black loafers, but tried the Mahogany. Look: They look great and work with business pants and jeans. I prefer a classic, traditional, pretty look so these match my style. I am debating buying another color soon—black, of course. I have been impressed with the quality of Margaux shoes. I do not think you will be disappointed, either."
