Introducing Margaux Bleecker

Introducing Margaux Bleecker

07.28.18

Appropriately enough, Dorothy said it first while clicking a pair of pretty block heels: “There’s no place like home.” The idea feels especially apropos as we open the doors to our first permanent store in New York’s West Village at 387 Bleecker Street. After touring the country with roving retail stores in San Francisco, Nantucket, and Palm Beach, bringing the Margaux experience back home wasn’t just an easy decision - It was our dream.

As anyone who’s hunted for an apartment in Manhattan, searching for the just-right spot can be a dizzying experience - Especially in New York, where each neighborhood can feel like a world unto itself. But sure enough, after months of searching, we found that perfect place at the corner of Bleecker and Perry Streets. From the moment you step into our new West Village neighborhood, you’ll understand why storied Bleecker Street is the perfect fit for our flagship.

There’s a magic in the air: An aura that comes from decades of history and meandering streets purposefully excluded from Manhattan’s famed grid system, allowing generations of people to get happily, romantically lost. Bleecker has captivated personality after personality throughout the years, from Allen Ginsberg and Jackson Pollock to Bob Dylan. Today, the tony brownstones on the surrounding streets are still home to modern-day luminaries.

In short, the West Village is a big-city neighborhood that still feels like an actual neighborhood, with corner shops and little gems ready to be discovered. It’s where we both live and now work, and we can’t wait to share our neighborhood haunts with you.

As with all great projects, this one took a village, and we assembled a dreamy team that helped us bring the Margaux experience to life in a way that makes our store feel like so much more than a store. Paul Bennett Architects configured a jewel box of a space, resulting in something that’s intimate and cozy, yet sophisticated. Analog Modern’s Peter Buley crafted a custom bookcase —a key fixture in every spot we’ve had— in his Brooklyn studio for us that will be stocked with books selected and inscribed by our New York-based Gaux Girls. Curiosity is inherent in the Margaux woman, and we’re so excited to build upon this tradition in a way that you can properly hold onto. We even set up an idyllic spot to flip through those pages, complete with sleek velvet slipper chairs against a backdrop of chic chinoiserie.

Inside, visiting Gaux Girls will recognize our signature color wheel featuring our seasonless collection of Classic flats. Fit specialists are always available—no appointment required—to help with fittings and custom orders, and shoes ordered will be shipped directly to your home free of charge.  You can also catch only-at-Bleecker exclusive products, which will be introduced each season.

We hope this store will be a home away from home and a hub for the community of thoughtful, inspiring, on-the-go women we are privileged to count as customers. With our headquarters a quick walk away, we will be spending plenty of time in the store so we can meet many of you. Now as ever, it’s so important for us to see what products our Gaux Girls love and to gather feedback on all aspects of the Margaux shopping experience. And in the next few months, we’ll be adding to the rich community of Bleecker Street with special store experiences, community-building events, block parties, and opportunities for you to meet our New York Gaux Girls in person.

Consider this an open invitation to our ongoing housewarming party - We can’t wait to meet you.
